David Crossland
FREE TYPE: Font Forge
We had amazing workshop to learn about creating typeface.
For this workshop we had special guest called David Crossland.

In the first, he gave us some information about how to create own typeface using a free open source software called “Font Forge”. He gave us a step by step guide on how to create a font.

At the beginning of the exercise, he asked us to sketch out the letters “CRAP” and "NO". Using a pencil to just write the small letters 'n','o'. And then we need to draw same letters with lines. We have got feedback and how many people draw right size and use space right way.
Second step, we had to create the type using a pencil and over laying it with a pen. We need to draw the letters first, then give some line base on the letters.

Exercise 2
He then told us the meaning of “CRAP” which is the rule of creating a good typeface:

Contrast
Repetition
Alignment
Proportion
FINAL OUTCOME
This program is amazing to create your own typeface. I was wondering how designers create their own fonts, and solve it and learned. This is really good as its very simple and easy to learn used to. If you know how to draw and how to use computer, and you can create own typeface. I struggled to draw the typeface, however it is very easy after leaning. I felt really comfortable because it is really similar as an Illustrator program, a program that i am most familiar with and use often.

In next year, I will learn and attend typography lecture in a school or out of school. I would like to creating my own typeface through this program more professional way.
